Linux On-demand Application Platform
This platform is mainly to enable users to select the required software and repositories
on the Internet. Through back-end operation of the system, the platform will mail the downloaded url of the ISO file of Linux operating system and the selected software to
the user. The user will then be able to execute and choose to install the Linux and the selected software (including both licensed commercial repositories and freeware
repositories) directly through the CD onto the hard disc after they have downloaded
the ISO file. The followings items are the features of this system:
System Features
- 1.Interactive user interface by drag-and-drop instead of clicking boxes
The user interface of the platform is developed completely through the most popular
Ajax technology. Drag-and-drop is used to replace check boxes as the interface to select repositories, adding a human touch.
- 2.Local repository selection replaced by network repositories
The platform enables users to select the required systems, functions and services by themselves through the Internet. They may also download and use immediately after the selection. No installation or setting is required.
- 3.Various repositories are available, including Fedora, OpenSUSE, Debian and Ubuntu
The platform currently provides four main networking community versions of Linux Distribution, which are Fedora originated from RedHat, OpenSUSE originated from Novell, the proclaimed-most-sophisticated Debian and Ubuntu (satisfies user interface environment).
- 4.Four types of available services – desktop end, server end, workstation and simple embedded versions
Apart from selecting different packages, users can also choose the system type according to their needs. We currently provide desktop end, server end, workstation and simple embedded system versions for users to choose from.
- 5.On-line setting services
In order to reduce the burden of the users, the platform is especially designed in a way
that users can perform the basic settings of the repositories through the Internet after
the selection. This can reduce the technical skill requirement for the users and simplify
the application.
- 6.Multi-language support to broaden the user base
Right from the initial stage of our plan, we included English-speaking countries into our
user base in order to span the "flat Earth" feature created by the internet. Different
language versions will be designed as separate products in the development process.
This arrangement will be able to attract co-developers from foreign language speaking countries after the platform entered into the international SourceForge project platform.
This will indirectly enable international sales.
- 7.Regular repository update notice
Regular repository update messages are available through the Linux system created by
the platform. This can reduce the burden of management and increase the system security.
